UNCLE PETE ABSORBS SOME CLASSIC CATHODE RAYS

It’s time to warm up those old cathode ray tubes again as UNCLE PETE brings you the CLASSIC TELEVISION SPECTACULAR (Part I) this week in THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN.  With UNCLE PETE being enveloped last week by a strange relaxed feeling (as well as a strange cloud of smoke from El Vato’s imported “incense”), he decided to stay put in the Dark Vault Den for another week and open up the Dark Vault Classic Television Archives (while the Dark Vault Film areas get aired out a bit).

First up is an episode of Clutch Cargo from 1962 featuring the special Synchrovox process which combined animation and live action speaking parts.  In this episode, Clutch, his sidekick Spinner and that pugnacious pooch Paddlefoot meet up with Mister Abominable.  More action follows  from 1967 with episode 1 of Johnny Socko and His Flying Robot.  Johnny, his pal and his giant robot defend the earth against all sorts of evil and assorted giant beasties.

Next we turn to suspenseful spookiness with a little seen series from the 50s called The Veil  hosted by Boris Karloff.  Then it’s Destination: Outer Space and a return to the Synchrovox process with Space Angel.  In this 1962 episode called The Ghost and Crystal Mace, Space Angel and his crew encounter a planet inhabited by some very upset and mischievous ghosts.

Finally, it’s back to earth where evil is afoot once again in The Adventures Of Dr. Fu Manchu, one of the first syndicated television programs.  This episode finds the evil doctor kidnapping a famous plastic surgeon to do some work on an evil-doer who has been in hiding since the fall of  his former stomping grounds – Nazi Germany.  Naztiness abounds in this episode entitled The Master Plan Of Dr. Fu Manchu

Back at the Dark Vault Den, UNCLE PETE  tries to get his robot buddy to demonstrate the process of Luffing (and we’re still not sure what Luffing is), and grows a Fu Manchu moustache.  Plus, there’s a cameo appearance by our friend, Mr. Yuk, the guy who replaced the old Skull and Crossbones as the symbol of poison.

So whether you have a black and white set or one of those new color console sets, make sure it’s good and warmed up for this Saturday night April 27, 2013 from 10PM to midnight on channel 4.  It’s a walk down Television Memory Lane with UNCLE PETE and the Classic Television Spectacular on the next DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN!
