REAL HORSEPOWER AND HOT RODS OF THE SEA
It’s still Hot Rod Rock and Roll Month here in THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN and this week UNCLE PETE will not only be driving his hot rod of the waves, the SS PETE, but also bringing you two feature presentations.
Up first, it’s horsepower of the four hooved kind with the riproarin’, sixgun shootin’ action packed western The Cheyene Kid. The Cheyene Kid (Jack Randall) has a reputation as a gamblin’, ne’er-do-well kinda guy but he’s had enough of that and decides that he and sidekick Manny (Frank Yaconelli) are going to be square shootin’ honest cowpokes from now on. He gets a cowhand job and soon becomes foreman. The rancher sends him off with $1000 to pick up a few doggies (that’s cattle to all you dudes). But a former ranch hand who wanted to be foreman teams up with the evil saloon owner to frame our hero for stealing and murder too.
There’s a necktie party waiting for our hero unless he and Manny can set things straight. Directed by Bernard B. Ray and also starring Louise Stanley as Ruth and George Chesbro as Davis, from 1940, it’s The Cheyene Kid. (And make sure to catch Manny’s great musical number, Cross-eyed Son Of A Gun).
Next up, it’s terror on the high seas with Torture Ship. The evil Dr. Herbert Stander (Irving Pichel) has a theory that criminal behavior is a gland problem and can be modified with his treatments. He lures seven baddies onto a ship claiming he will take them to a place where they’ll be safe from the law. But being an evil scientist, he lied. It’s bizarre treatments, fights terror, and suspense instead. But Lieut. Bob Bennet (Lyle Talbot) might have something to say about this. With Jacqueline Wells as Joan, and Wheeler Oakman as Ritter, from writer Jack London and director Victor Halperin, it’s 1939’s Torture Ship.
But it’s not just a double feature – it’s double danger too!!! The fearsome Lake Dark Vault Monster – Lakie – is on the prowl again. Several lake-goers have already turned up mostly missing (Lakie always was a sloppy eater). UNCLE PETE is on the case though. He’s brought the SS PETE out of dry dock, loaded her with cannonballs a-plenty and armored himself for a fight to the finish with the dreaded beastie. After all, the prospect of getting eaten is not good for the tourist trade.
So join UNCLE PETE, his state-of-the-art maritime marauder the SS PETE, and a rare daylight glimpse of a prehistoric behemoth, this Saturday night, August 23, 2013 from 10PM to midnight on channel 4. It’s double feature night with The Cheyene Kid and Torture Ship on the next DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!
