MADNESS, DISEASE, AND OF COURSE UNCLE PETE

UNCLE PETE EXAMINES THIS WEEK’S MIND-MELTING FEATURES

It’s just one week before Memorial Day Weekend which in THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN means it’s the unofficial start of the week leading up to the unofficial start of summer!  So with such a big event as that in the works, UNCLE PETE will be bringing you the “feel good” double feature of the pre-summer!  First up it’s Maniac from 1934.  an exploitation almost classic from film legend Dwain Esper.  Maniac finds the mad scientist Dr. Meirschultz (Horace B. Carpenter) experimenting to bring the dead back to life.  When assistant Don (Bill Woods) kills the doctor, he uses his experience as a former vaudeville impersonator to pose as the mad doctor – with an emphasis on the mad.  When his treatments of mental patient Buckley produce violent fits, Buckley’s wife (played by Phyllis Diller – no, not that one) finds out what’s up and blackmails the fake doctor into turning her husband into a zombie.  Loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe’s The Black Cat, it’s Dwain Esper’s Maniac.

Next, UNCLE PETE needs to use a few extra restraints on El Vato as he brings you part two of a Dwain Esper double feature.  From 1938, it’s the full-blown scare film Sex Madness (aka – They Must Be Told).  In this cautionary tale warning about the perils of venereal disease, we find concerned citizen Paul Lorenz crusading against the spread of these nasty germs.  On the evil side are several frequenters and employees of a local burlesque show, a sex-crazed secretary or two, and unfortunately, Paul’s son Tom.  But amidst all the decadence is Millicent, a reformed (but infected) ex-burlesque dancer who is seeking a cure on her journey back to the straight and narrow.  This movie was far outside the Motion Picture Production Code of the 1930s but was permitted because of its educational tone.  Starring Vivian McGill, Rose Tapely, Al Rigeli, and Stanley Barton, it’s Sex Madness.

UNCLE PETE does his best to hold down the fort situated in front of the Official DVOPD Cathode Ray Video Viewer while trying to control the other Dark Vault Denizens from running amok during this evenings extra warped features.  So tune in this Saturday night from 10PM to midnight (with replays at midnight and 2AM) to channel 4 in the Binghamton area, channel 17 in the Montrose/Sayre area, channel 99 in the Corning/Hornell/Elmira area andthe Utica/Rome area and channel 30 in the North Country (Ogdensburg/Watertown/MAlone/Massena/Champlain).  It’s a mind-melting Dwain Esper double feature – Maniac and Sex Madness – on the next DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!
