GO GO GORILLA, GO GO UNCLE PETE!!!

UNCLE PETE AND EL VATO SENDING OUT ANOTHER DARK VAULT GEM

Nothin’ says Labor Day Weekend like a gorilla!  So, this week in THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN we bring you the wacky romantic music-filled comedy horror classic Bela Lugosi Meets A Brooklyn Gorilla.  It stars Duke Michell as Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo as Sammy Petrillo in their only cinematic outing presenting their clone-like impersonations of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (another couple of actor/singer/comic type guys who also had movie and recording careers, or so I’ve heard).

SAMMY , DUKE AND NONA AT THE SHINDIG

Duke and Sammy, flying to entertain the troops stationed in Guam, mistake the Out Door for the powder room and wind up landing on an island (good thing they were wearing their parachutes).  It turns out to be Kola Kola at the far end of the Zamboanga group (and as you may know, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga – but that’s another song…).  The chief’s daughter Nona (played by Charlita) saves the boys’ lives and sparks fly between Nona and Dukey.  The Mad Scientist in the ointment, Dr. Zabor (Bela Lugosi) has a spooky jungle castle that the natives avoid like a porcupine in a nudist colony.  But since Nona has a job as lab assistant with the Doctor, Duke and Sammy head up there to see about getting off the island.  But Zabor also has eyes for Nona and decides to get Duke out of the way by using him as the donor for his brain transfer experiment involving a big ol’ gorillillilla!  As might be expected, wacky hi-jinx ensue!  This 1952 gem from director William Beaudine (a well known name in the world of the Bowery Boys) also features Ramona the Chimp, and you gotta love any movie with a Ramona in it.

UNCLE PETE SPREADS ADVICE ON THE AIRWAVES EARLY IN HIS CAREER

Meanwhile, UNCLE PETE gets a bit of a disappointment when he finds the big name Hollywood feature presentation he had planned ain’t gonna happen.  He slips into a flashback of his days as host of a radio advice phone-in show with some interesting callers.  But he also manages to dig up not one, but two, helpings of our favorite cartoon cutie, Betty Boop, with 1933’s The Old Man Of The Mountain (featuring Cab Calloway and His Orchestra) and 1932’s Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle!  Pull out your sarongs, your grass skirts and your half coconut drinking cup things.  It’s two hours of songs, dances, and snappy patter this Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 10PM to midnight with replays at midnight and 2AM) on channel 4 in Binghamton, channel 17 in Sayre/Montrose, channel 99 in Utica/Rome and Hornell/Elmira/Corning and channel 30 in the North Country of New York State!  It’s Flashbacks and a gorilla with UNCLE PETE for Bela Lugosi Meets A Brooklyn Gorilla, the next feature presentation in THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN!

(And don’t forget to watch THE DARK VAULT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN on Beta Max TV on the ROKU device!  New this week – our Night Train To Terror episode!)
